Just one year ago, the Husby, Fruitaholic and I had just gotten home from dinner when my phone rang. “It’s time,” said my mom on the other line. We quickly packed a bag for the Fruitaholic, dropped him off at my in-laws and drove to the hospital.
Just one year ago, my entire family and I sat overnight in a waiting room, anxiously, nervously, excitedly waiting for good news from the surgical team, and the collective sighs of relief and our sleepy smiles when we were told the procedure was a success.
Just one year ago, my mom was given another chance at life. This past year of Mom’s recovery has been full of challenges, but we wouldn’t change a thing about it.
Last year, I had the idea to honor Mom by starting a blog event focusing on heart healthy recipes. Since I was still somewhat new to the blogosphere, I didn’t have a ton of participation, but I was still able to raise $28 for the American Heart Association. Now that I’ve made my presence known and formed some awesome friendships with fellow bloggers, I’m so happy to say that I blew last year’s total out of the water!!
This year, on the one year anniversary of Mom’s transplant, I received 19 amazing entries for this event. Combined with the private donations of some friends and family who don’t have blogs, I was able to raise $69 for a great cause!
So without further adieu, I present to you 19 heart healthy recipes from some amazing blogs. Be sure to check them out, as I couldn’t have done this without their awesome support. And remember, it’s never too early to start thinking about next year! 😉
Allison of The Imitation Chef has me dreaming of summer with her Grilled Chicken with Pineapple and Strawberry Salsa.
Special thanks go out to Kim and to my parents for making a donation to the cause. If you didn’t get a chance to participate but would like to make a donation, you can do so HERE and make a tribute in the name of Linda Vittenson.
And lastly, Mom wouldn’t have gotten this second chance if her donor hadn’t expressed their wishes to be one. Become an organ donor by signing the back of your driver’s license or registering in your state by clicking HERE. Who knows? You could save someone’s life!
